For Your Wedding Day

This blessing is born

in tender words exchanged,

humble and hopeful promises

whispered by hearts building a home

that is warmed by breath from heaven.

This blessing blooms

like your generous affection shared,

adoration nourished with roots in

the good stuff that is not scarce,

a wellspring of love beyond measure.

This blessing echoes

whenever your people gather to witness

the vulnerable valor of your vows

tame one wild thing and

set the rest of your fullness free.

This blessing is ancient,

conjured by ancestors

and cured in the golden wisdom

of saints who circle round and round,

like wills offered and rings exchanged.

This blessing is a fresh anointing,

fashioned and formed by the God

who keeps time and transcends it,

who never tires of loving your love

and making all things new.

This blessing is inspired by couples exchanging vows this year. This season I’ll officiate my 150th union! Celebrating life passages is one of my favorite things about being a pastor. I am grateful to everyone who welcomes me into a sacred transition to mark joy, sorrow, or change. Life is wild and mysterious and holy. We wander together.
