For Pandemic Parents

This blessing knows

how hard you try

how much is lost

how thin the patience pulls.

So it comes all the way out

to witness your quiet fears,

through darkness to whisper:

Well Done and Good Enough.

This is hard and scary and sad.

We have not done this before

and it’s nearly too much, though

the children don’t know that.

But they know you.

And their knowing is holy,

rooted in love and trust stored

like grain for this very season.

So when you forget who you are

just look in their eyes and feast

on what they know. You are

Well Done and Good Enough.
